Doctor Who Short Trips: The Siege of Big Ben | Big Finish | Review As I mentioned in a previous Big Finish review , I'm somewhat new to the world of Doctor Who at Big Finish. As a result, I was both excited and trepidatious to see that two new Short Trips audios had been announced, read by Camille Coduri (Jackie Tyler) and focusing on Jackie and the Metacrisis Doctor teaming up at some point after Journey's End. While I was immediately excited to see that Big Finish were looking to explore everything going on in Pete's World, I was not remotely familiar with the Short Trips series, as I am not overly familiar with Classic Who (I'm slowly working my way through, and it takes quite a bit of time and money) and was very unsure of what to expect. I heard people talking on the internet that these were much more audiobooks rather than audio dramas, but beyond that I really didn't know what to expect from these new audios. When is a fan not a fan? When they're a gatekeeper...

All fandoms, no matter how big or small, have fan rivalries once in a while. Disagreements about plots, characters, relationships, and other elements are familiar on most social media platforms where fans congregate.     But when is a fan not a fan? Some fans take these rivalries one step further, effectively policing their fandoms and attempting to dictate what the fandom decides is a good or bad episode or film, which characters are acceptable to like or dislike. Some even try to enforce a hierarchy within the fandom which would suggest new or less knowledgeable fans are lesser fans than long-term, knowledgeable ones. Possibly the biggest issue with fandom gatekeeping is that some fans seem to believe they are superior to others. Often, this is due to being a fan of the show before it became popular, or since it started, or having extensive knowledge of the show or franchise.
